Our Vision
More than 60% of the litter that accumulates on shorelines, the surface, and the seafloor of our Oceans is made up of plastic pollution. Our vision at The Plastic Pledge is to play a leading role in creating a world where our oceans are free of plastic pollution. We strive to achieve this by educating and advocating for policies and practices connected to the production, use, reuse and disposal of plastic, which protect the natural world. This is turned into tangible action when select entities across the world partner with us to commit to, document, record and transparently deliver The Plastic Pledge.
Our Approach
At The Plastic Pledge, we take a holistic approach to environmental education and advocacy. We recognize that plastic pollution and the health of the planet is interconnected with the health of society and the economy. Therefore, we work with schools, universities, NGO's, event organizers, sports teams, trade associations and corporates to promote solutions that address environmental, social, and economic challenges simultaneously.
Our Impact
Since our founding The Plastic Pledge has already made a positive impact on environmental policy and practice but we can always do more and we work tirelessly every day to achieve that. We have successfully advocated for stronger regulations on the use, reuse, and disposal of plastic amongst our partners. Our work has now expanded from just protecting our oceans and their eco-systems, to including plastic pollution hotspots across the world.

The journey to date
- In December 2022 Toby Gregory's 'Arabian Ocean Rowing Team' embarked on a challenge of a lifetime. Rowing a specially built boat, a little bigger than the average family car, 5000km, unsupported and unassisted across the Atlantic Ocean. Toby's row was designed with sustainability in mind. With no engine and no sail, just two solar panels to power the chart plotter, radio, and desalination machine. 42 days later (10 days ahead of schedule) in January 2023 the team arrived into Antigua. Toby Gregory used the crossing and the global publicity it brought to raise awareness about some very special causes – including environmental sustainability and the fight against plastic pollution, in alignment with Toby's partner on the row – the UN Environment Programmes ‘Clean Seas’ initiative.
- While it was incredible seeing dolphins, whales, sharks in their own environment and nature at its best, the team also witnessed first-hand plastic pollution throughout their journey and Toby decided he had to do more than just raise awareness. He wanted to ensure that there was a tangible outcome, so he created The Plastic Pledge.
- By committing to reduce our plastic use, we can significantly decrease the amount of plastic pollution that ends up in our oceans, harming marine life and polluting our natural resources. By encouraging others to take the pledge, we can create a positive ripple effect and inspire change on a larger scale, spreading the message to family, friends, and the community, to create a cleaner and healthier planet for all.
